What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is considered an alternative medicine that involves the application of pressure to certain areas of the body such as the feet, the hands, and the ears. The idea is to use specific hand techniques on a map of major reflex points that correspond to various body systems, in order to bring harmony to the affected area(s) and eliminate toxins.
Millions of people around the world use it as a therapy to compliment treatments for anxiety, asthma, PMS symptoms, cancer treatments, cardiovascular diseases, as well as diabetes and kidney function problems. What’s more, Reflexologists work “from the inside out” by stimulating the nervous system to release tension. They can help to improve even the smallest issues such as recurring congestion, muscle tightness, and headaches.
What to expect
A typical Reflexology session allows you to go into a deep state of relaxation and conscious awareness. First, an experienced Reflexologist assesses the problem areas to determine how they can help you in the best way possible. You will then lie down and may be told to be conscious of your breathing. You may feel a sense of lightness, or a physical perception of energy flowing throughout the session as the practitioner works through your major reflex points. The importance of the experience is to give yourself the time to fall into this deep relaxation state.
After a Reflexology session, you may feel like you have had a psychological or emotional release. You may feel energized, relieved from pain you were suffering from, and enhanced sleep that night. Many people find their body goes into a detox cleansing-mode as well which should be taken as a positive sign of the healing process.
All of these feelings are subtle but cumulative. If you are seeking Reflexology sessions because you have a recurring health problem or ongoing condition, you could benefit from regular sessions throughout the year.
