The Benefits of Tui Na Massage

Tui na (pronounced tweena), refers to an ancient Chinese medical massage that can be traced back to 2300 B.C. Tui na, which literally means push/grasp, is a series of pressing, tapping and kneading movements that allows the qi (chi), or energy, to flow to and from the affected area.

The Tui na method of healing uses the same pressure points as acupuncture, but without the needles. It offers a wide range of benefits, both physiological as well as psychological and is used to treat a variety of ailments, three of which are discussed below.

Physiological benefits of Tui na massage enhances recovery from joint injuries
Tui na massage is beneficial for the recovery of injured joints. When the joints of the bone are inured, the local circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid slows down due to inactivity of the affected muscles and joints. It results in swelling of the tissue and adhesive liquids are formed, leading to tissue adherence that causes dysfunction of joints and muscular atrophy. Appropriate Tui na treatment speeds up the blood and lymphatic circulation to reduce swelling, relax adherence, and improve the range of motion of dysfunctional joints.

Tui na massage regulates the nervous system
Tui na decreases the excitability of peripheral sensory nerve endings and is often used to relieve pain caused by disorders such as neuritis and neuralgia. Gentle maneuvers are able to stimulate motor nerves to improve the excitability of the muscles while stronger manipulations are applied in treating muscle spasms and enhancing the recovery process of impeded functions.

Tui na massage improves the mood
Gentle and soft manipulations of the Tui na can help patients to relax, calm downy. Tui na is an effective therapy for not only for physical disorders, but also psychological imbalances and to help relieve feelings of anxiety and depression.
